Top 11 Reasons We go to School (in no particular order)

8/26/2014

To learn things (Oscar)
School is helpful (Daniel)
To learn how to read so we can be safe (Julia L)
To learn to spell and to learn spelling techniques (Hannah)
So your parents can go to work (Asher)
To get smarter (Brody and Zachary)
To learn math (Ryan)
To make friends (Jacob)
To have fun (Julia B)
It's the best place to learn/so you don't have to be home-schooled (Anthony and Jessie)
To learn to be independent (Jonah)

After examining our list, we noticed a pattern. Together we decided, that the number one reason we go to school is...
To learn so we get smarter!

We had a fabulous morning in General Studies. We organized our supplies, took a walking tour of the school, visited the office and said "Hi" to everyone, learned some new routines, and went to PE. We were busy acclimating to our new class.

Please ask your child to share his/her favorite part of the morning with you. I would love to hear what everyone says, so please share comments below. Looking forward to tomorrow...

When I first asked Oscar what his favorite part of the morning was? His response," I don't know." I told him Mrs. Levine would like to know. He said, " Oh I know, meeting my new science teacher!"

I'm so happy to hear he liked his science teacher! Mr. Thaler is an excellent teacher. The kids will learn a lot from him this year.

Julia -

I love your blog comments. You always have something nice to say.

I did not know you saw your cousin. Please let me tomorrow who your cousin is. I liked taking the tour also. I especially liked going to visit Bil in his office.

See you tomorrow,
Mrs. Levine

Monday, I took Daniel to Goucher College with me since KSDS hadn't started, and he sat in on both of my classes. In my Intro science course, I commented to the students that my job isn't to teach them lots of facts. I asked them what my job is...and no one raised their hand. Then Daniel pipes up "It's to help you learn!!" I'm glad to know that we have the same philosophy about school, even though there are some 11 grade levels between our students. :-)

Jacob simply said, "Best day ever!" When we asked about school. When pressed, he said he loves that the classroom is upstairs away from the kindergarten and first grades because he feels older and it is quieter.

I didn't even know they saw a bat in science. That must have been interesting. We have a family of bats that live in the trees near our house. On warm evenings, we sit outside at dusk and watch them fly around. They look really different than birds when they fly.

I am headed back to my roots this year. I'll be teaching 4th grade again. Of my 18 years in the classroom, 12 of them have been have been in 4th grade. Now I'm back.
